Ben, Phil and S’ya are all about challenging themselves to the extreme. Ben and Phil have already successfully completed marathons and triathlons, whilst Ben has also completed Ironman UK. This year they are taking on the 496 Challenge, an extreme running challenge designed by Sean Conway.
Inspired by their work colleague, Stephen who is a foster carer, they are raising funds for The Foster Care Charity. The money raised will be used in training and well-being activities that support foster carers to be able to give their best to the children they look after.
“I’m Ben, I work at Schofield & Sons with S’ya. Phil is my brother-in-law and he’s a sales executive at Williams.
I’ve completed a few running and triathlon events including Ironman UK in 2023 and the 2024 Manchester marathon with Phil. S’ya is well into health and fitness, especially boxing and has started running training in preparation for the 496 challenge in July
I’ve worked with Stephen for a couple of years and I’ve always appreciated the work he does with fostering. I don’t think I could ever do what Stephen does, but what I can do is run! And I’ve realised, by way of a lightbulb moment, that I could probably use this talent to help contribute to The Foster Care Charity by setting myself a challenge and opening up a pathway for donations.
The problem is that people know that I can already run marathons and triathlons, so the challenge needed to be outrageous, it had to be the 496 challenge!”
Anyone is welcome to join us on this 496 challenge!
“This is such a worthy cause to raise funds for. It will be great to see the results as we get into the challenge.”
Phil's Story
S'ya's Story
Ben's Story
“My name is S’ya (but you can pronounce it as See-ya or Sy) I work at Schofield & Sons with Ben. I haven’t completed any marathons or anything like Ben but I hope to in the future which is a part of the reason why I want to run the 496 challenge. I am very into sports, health, and fitness (also love eating boiled eggs and minced beef for breakfast😁) I do quite a lot of boxing and am part of a gym hoping to compete in the sport because it brings me a sense of peace and happiness and I just love how disciplined you have to be in order to compete. Also running is a big part that gets you fit for this sport so that is another reason why I am doing this challenge.
Finally the full overall reason why I want to do this challenge and be a fundraiser for The Foster Care Charity is because I want to inspire other people any age to always challenge yourself and be comfortable with being uncomfortable. I want to mature, grow and do things I never thought I could do! I want to help the children that need a foster parent and a family get a family so that they are safe and healthy. And overall I want to help not only myself but everyone around me whether they are a stranger or someone I know.”
